The alternate learning program is an education initiative, which provides a flexible approach to learning through a range of individualised and small group programs to assist students to effectively improve upon their learning deficiencies or to supplement their learning.

Our Initiatives for the children of waste collectors is dedicated to:

  • Support students, who aren’t effectively learning within their formal school.

  • Offer a flexible approach to learning through a range of individualised programs

  • Learners achieve the best grades possible in various subjects including English, Maths, Science

The youngest of two children, Amritha Laxmi B, is a second-year BA student at Vidyanagara Government College at Kannur University in Kasargod. She was placed third in the college and earned a 90% on her First BA. She has actively taken part in college-hosted sporting and cultural events, where she has received numerous awards.

The father of Amritha Laxmi B works as a waste collector and delivers the recyclables to the Mulipady scrap shop, where he receives a monthly salary of between 5000 and 6000 rupees. The only person helping the family financially is her father. It was challenging to continue his daughter's education because of their family's marginalised economic situation.

With the financial support from the PFC, Amritha was able to continue her education. Amritha's parents were relieved that they no longer had to worry about their daughter's education and could focus on their work. She is motivated to study hard and achieve her dream.

Financial support provided them with the opportunity to pursue her dreams and break the cycle of poverty. This program provided a vital role in ensuring that every child has access to quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background.
